(Chocolate Hills National Monument)
Chocolate Hills National Monument Batuan Bohol Philippines
The Chocolate Hills National Monument is perhaps the quirkiest hills today. It is a collection of at least 1,260 hills spread over an area of 50 square kilometers. Why the strange name? Though covered in green grass, all the hills turn brown during the dry season. These giant lumps of brown have caused many strange stories to sprout. One of these includes two feuding giants who began fighting each other, throwing rocks and boulders at each other. After days of fighting, they were so exhausted that they called it quits. They left the land but forgot to clean up the huge mess they made, thus the birth of the Chocolate Hills! Despite the weirdness of it all, it is one of the most beautiful views to catch. No wonder it has been declared the country’s third National Geological Monument and is up for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage list.
