상세설명

Regalong Pambahay was an inspiration borne from under the bridge of Quiapo, where, under its concrete flank lies a conglomeration of market sellers who present trinket in sight to passersby and tourists. Regalong Pambahay was a quiet inspiration conceived from across the whitewashed beauty of Quiapo church; an idea set quietly within the mind of one particular girl as she set about going through the wares in their family store-Balikbayan Handicrafts. She was whispering "why not?" to the wooden statues, "why not?" to the capiz shells swaying above her head, "why not?" to all things old and traditional that lined the shelves of the store.

Regalong Pambahay was conceived during the height of the 90s generation X craze, whose philosophy was to "always break free from the usual." In this case, the idea was to break free from traditional designs, from expensive costly acquisitions; from the limited range of quality home accessories. She knew that she would be tapping into a quiet but vast market, a potent market of buyers that tread the path of old ideas, but is always left veritably unsatisfied.

Deciding it was a constant and restless itch in the head anyway, she proceeded towards the only practical and likely solution: a wide berth. A berth translating into a space. A space translating into a corner section on the second floor of Balikbayan Handicrafts in Makati. A section translating into a stark difference between what she offered as new and innovative designs among the old. In short, the new kid with the new idea knew that she would be in for the long haul. First stop was this humble corner section, but ultimately: the world.

Or the mall. With the mall translating into a world of shoppers.

Armed with prayers, loads of determination and an enthusiastic business partner, this idea borne under the bridge finally made its way to the glossy tiles of SM, the country's leading mall developer and operator. But to break through SM, Regalong Pambahay had to pass through SM's stringent requirements. And no sooner did they present the concept that the idea of Regalong Pambahay bowled the SM people over. They couldn't help but ask, "could you set five stores at once?"

It is not hard to imagine how much a young business entrepreneur with her partner at that time would feel when the least they had expected was a kiosk. Flabbergasted, they mentally went through the meager funds at their disposal and replied ?yes? to one store but not yet to the others.

So in 1997, the first ever Regalong Pambahay in SM Southmall was born. The concept under the bridge was curiously received by an expectant market even before the manila paper covering the glass of the show window ever got off during its maiden launching. They grew excited as the tasteful Filipino consumer they expected walked through the doors of RP with shopping bags in tow, ready to be enamored with handcrafted creations they have never seen before. The customers walked through row upon row of lamps, candles, candleholders, frames and vases feeling pride swelling in their chests when they found out that it was made by our Filipino craftsmen, craftsmen encouraged by a thriving cottage industry; the very industry patronized by Regalong Pambahay. Thus, this little store in Southmall came to be embraced as one of their own.

More stores of Regalong Pambahay followed suit in malls such as SM Edsa, SM Megamall, SM Pampanga, SM Sucat, Glorietta and outlet stores in Quezon Avenue and Pioneer St., in Mandaluyong. And the little corner section at the second floor of Balikbayan Handicrafts? It still exists today.

Through the economic turmoils of the 1990s and political uncertainties as the Philippines shift towards the new millennium, Regalong Pambahay continues to share its vision to the Filipinos, standing forever faithful in bringing quality products, giving fresh ideas, keeping up with global trends. Regalong Pambahay helped develop the design sensibilities of the everyday Filipino, redefining living spaces with accessories that are one of its kind, using materials that are not traditionally used before, taking advantage of the indigenous resources our country has to offer.

A whisper of a fresh idea coming from under the old bridge. Regalong Pambahay firmly and attestingly- without skipping a beat- finally struck home.
